Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood situated in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never known about it may think it is a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel became a young woman in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. At the beginning of her life, she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. Many dancers make the transition to acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. The teacher encouraged her to audition for a part in her school's production. The teacher who suggested she take on a part in the school's annual show. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been seen on the small and large screen. She gained the most attention when she won her part as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for the season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
